Introduction

Eris, recently discovered and larger than Pluto, catalyzing the total re-classification of planets and the resultant formation of the Dwarf Planet class in which Pluto now resides. Mythologically, Eris is the Greek god of strife. Astrologically, Eris can be thought of as the Great Disrupter, but with a purpose, sort of shaking up what is stagnant in consciousness or the status quo so a greater re-organization can eventually follow, one more fitting to our accelerating and expanding evolutionary transition in consciousness.

Presented below are the primary Planetary Synodic Cycles occurring with Eris from 2003 through 2014; and their star alignments in sidereal Pisces, as Eris moves through the belly of Cetus, the psycho-emotional world of collective human consciousness. An exploration of the historical path of Eris, from the 1900's--bringing insight to its mission now. In 2016 Uranus and Eris start a new synodic cycle, the last having started in 1927. The Uranus -Eris synodic cycle is also explored in this article.

Synodic cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in thier orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.

There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.

All dates and ecliptical locations in this article are heliocentric--looking directly from the Sun (not from the Earth), although there is little diference due to the distance of Eris.

Eris Synodic Cycles - 2003 through 2014

The only outer planet creating more than one synod with Eris during this period is Jupiter, which occurs every 12 to 13 years. The other synods are with: Mars (occurring about every 687 days); Earth (occurring every 365-6 days); Venus (occurring about every 225 days); and Mercury (occurring about every 88 days).

Generally there are two Earth-Eris synods for every Mars-Eris synod. Venus synods occur much more often, very close to a Venus Year, which is 224.701 Earth days ( ~0.615 Earth years ), moving slightly faster than Earth. Mercury-Eris synods occur near the rate of Mercur'y year, which is 87.95 Earth days. (Mercury-Eris synods are not shown in the chart below.)

The synodic periods are very close the orbital period of the inner planets because Eris moves only slightly by the time the planet conjoins Eris again.

Synodic Astrology
The Emergence of Eris - from the 1900's

In the early 1900's Eris was in the very southern heavens, deep in the subconscious realm of consciousness. Eris was emerging from the constellation Sculptor (latter sidereal Aquarius), and then would move upward under the tail and through the bowels of Cetus later in the century.

In a sense, we can consider that Eris was amassing the essence of the stars and constellations though which is was traveling, gathering momentum to emerge into humanity's awareness with the energetics it had taken on along its journey.

While in Sculptor, Eris was embodying the Sculptor's essence--as if planning to play a role in re-sculpting our lives; and deep below the humanitarian Waterman, Aquarius--gaining its purpose to aid humanity to re-orient itself toward a humanitarian based society.

Traveling deep below the trashing tail of Cetus in the mid-1900's, and still hidden from humanity, Eris was silently observing, from the depths, the nature of the psycho-emotional turbulence of the surface waters in which humanity flounders. Then entering the very bowels of Cetus, Eris begins to amass the very inner and dark workings of the fear-based technobureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness. Observing Eris' past path, we might surmise Eris has shown up with some profound wisdom to apply in its mission as it dramatically emerges into our conscious reality.

Curiously, Eris emerges into our awareness as Eris conjoins Revati of Pisces, when it was discovered, and Baten Kaitos of Cetus, where it would start to make its presence and potent role as the Great Disrupter known, and where it would begin to actively apply all the momentum and wisdom it had gained prior to its emergence.

Now, at the turn on the century, and of the millennium, Eris begins its work disrupting the status quo in this very specific area of human consciousness, revealed by Revati and Baten Kaitos--specifically regarding issues surrounding the financial aspects of life and how resources of the world are entwined in the belly of human consciousness, which create the paradox of freedom and slavery, the rich and poor, and the struggle in which people are endlessly battling to emerge successfully from this paradoxical monster.

Current Eris Star Alignments

Eris resides at ~25° sidereal Pisces and conjoines Revati of Pisces in 2003-2004. Eris lies within a ±1° orb to Revati from 1999 through 2007; and it lies within a ±2° orb to Revati from 1994 (near the time of its discovery) through 2012.

In 2012, when Eris is 2° past Revati, it conjoins Baten Kaitos of Cetus. Eris lies within a ±1° orb to Baten Kaitos from 2007 through 2015. Eris lies within a ±2° orb to Baten Kaitos from 2004 through 2020.

Due to the very long-period (slow orbit) of Eris around the Sun (~560 Earth years), Eris moves very little through the zodiac during this time. Thus there are many Earth-Eris synodic cycles progressing slowly and working with the Revati / Baten Kaitos theme.

Revati, Zeta Pisces, literally is riches, money, financial resources, wealth of the human world. Revati is found in the essence of the psychic and emotional world of human affairs--in the belly of ole' Cetus, as revealed by the close ecliptical longitudes of these two stars.

Although conjoining Revati, which is nearly on the ecliptic plane, Eris is still south of the ecliptic in the Aquatics, actively working in the inner workings of Cetus, the fear-based technobureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness, the whale of human emotional experience. Eris is thus working at a very deep emotional gut level, having a profound effect in redefining humanity's relationship with financial resources and the path of the heart--perhaps helping us to get our priorities in proper order by shifting our emotional drive from pursuing the quantity we have in life to the quality and harmony all people have in life. And, in Eris style, perhaps turning our insides out in the process.

Synodic Astrology: Eris & Uranus - 1927 - 2016

A new Uranus-Eris synodic cycle begins in Dec of 2016. The last Uranus-Eris synod occurred around 1927 in early sidereal Pisces on the Vernal Point. The vernal point is the primary fiducial (marking point) for the "moving axis" in the precessional "Cycle of the Holy Cross"; the timepiece that governs the "Evolutionary Cycle of the Soul Collective on Earth." Due to Earth's precession, in 1927, the Vernal Point was then aligned with Diphda, the thrashing tail of Cetus the Sea Monster, at about 7° sidereal Pisces (of course it has now moved to 5° sidereal Pisces creating the Erect Holy Cross). Diphda's theme is that of getting knocked down and thrashed around in the psycho-emotional world of collective human consciousness.

Although Eris was not yet discovered, this 1927 Uranus-Eris synod should have catalyzed the beginning of a significant and radical transition for humanity, yet one working at a very sub-conscious level since Eris was not yet discovered. This Uranus-Eris-Diphda synod suggests the any year cycle would be catalyzing a radical and unexpected change in the nature of how humanity gets thrashed around in the tormenting and turbulent emotional waters created by the fear-based technobureaucratic monster. Of course we would not become aware of this nor would it manifest until the discovery of Eris in 1995, when Eris became activefor humanity at a conscious level. The theme of this cycle continues through the next Uranus-Eris synod of Dec 2016.

The correlation of global events and historical transitions surrounding the 1927 Uranus-Eris synod may be ideal for astrologers to explore in order to gain more insight into the astrological nature of Eris.

A few events occurring during this time were: In Global Communications - The first transatlantic commercial telephone service was established between New York and London. There were breakthroughs in radio and television, with television's first successful long-distance broadcast. These were technological shifts certainly severing the limits of the past (a Uranian theme), ones that would then continue throughout the synodic cycle. These were also the days of Ford's Model A; Mae West, Duke Ellington, and Ernest Hemingway. However, shortly to follow was the Great US Stock Market Crash in 1929, which led to the Great Depression (fitting to the Vernal-Point-Diphda theme). Although originating in the US, the Depression spread to Europe and all other parts of the world causing severe political disarray. This also proved opportunistic for tyrants like Hitler and Stalin. World War II followed a decade later.

Remember, Uranus and Eris move quite slowly so their active orb lasts over a long period, and a synod merely marks the start of cycle which will then unfold over time--the Uranus-Eris cycle being about 89 years.

The 1927 Uranus-Eris synod occurred prior to the erect 270° Holy Cross, thus adding to elicit our "inner need to initiate change" in the precessional Cycle of the Holy Cross. The 2016 Uranus-Eris synod, although not in principal aspect to the Holy Cross, occurs after the precessional transition marked by the erect Holy Cross, in the beginning of "initiate change" in our ~25,000-year Great World Cycle, and of course much later in sidereal Pisces with entirely different star alignments. Uranus-Eris align almost a degree past Baten Kaitos of Cetus, as Eris starts its emergence from the Piscian aquatics. Mars comes along to activate the Uranus-Eris synod in Jan 2017.

Will we see another dramatic technological turning in 2016 catalyzed by Uranus-Eris, and another shift in the psycho-emotional world of human collective consciousness--perhaps one of emergence as Eris moves more north from the belly of ole' Cetus and through the last degrees of sidereal Pisces.
