Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.
The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your unique new lunar month theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).
New Moon Phase Characteristics

This New Moon of April 17, 2007 occurs in the first couple degrees of sidereal Aires.
Classically, Aries is figured as a reclining ram with its head looking back over itself, admiring his own golden fleece. The theme of Aries the Ram, whether articulated by the Royal Family or Jason and the Argonauts search for the golden fleece is about the initiatory challenges that continually create obstacles and limitations across life's path. These obstacles, often created by our righteous attitudes of arrogance, create painful and repetitive lessons in the fires of life about that very thing--pride, arrogance, and greed--lessons that ultimately produce the alchemical honing of self. The lessons of sidereal Aries awaken us from our denial and naiveté regarding how arrogance and greed create our own entrapment in the Jaws of Cetus--the jaws continually pulling us into the transmutational fires of human experience.
Our New Moon conjoins the Cas-A Black Hole, Super Nova Remnant in Cassiopeia. Adjoining Cas A are the influences of Al Pherg of Pisces; and the beautiful Andromeda Galaxy M31.
Cas-A embodies the over-theme of Cassiopeia, the soul of the queen. Cas-A creates the need to see opportunity for attainment (articulated by the beautiful and conjoining Andromeda Galaxy M31) rather than opposition to it, and to have the courage to do the inner work required to claim it. In typical Cassiopeian style however this can express as an explosive temper tantrum of outrage and anger when feeling deprived or a victim of one's position or environment in which they find themselves; or victim to other forces attempting to manipulate and control one's freedom or birthright. But this is ultimately due to not having dealt with one's own issues to start with. In the black hole model, Cas-A offers a powerful opportunity for transformation if we are willing to surrender our arrogance that we deserve, and our focus on why we are being denied, to the beneficent grace bestowed by appreciating the beauty that can become.

Al Pherg of Pisces, Beta Fornax of the Furnace, and Acamar of Eridanus mark the cusp of sidereal Pisces-Aries. Acamar enters the last couple degrees of sidereal Pisces. Beta Fornax of the Furnace lies exactly cuspal, and Al Pherg lies along the cord that ties the eastern upright fish of Pisces to the western fish of earlier Pisces, entering just across the cusp into sidereal Aries.
These stars thus mark the transition from emotional Piscean aquatics to the hot fiery Arian desert. To discuss them together brings greater context to the cusp and to our lunar theme as well.
Acamar, Theta 1,2 of ERIDANUS, is a primary stop or stoppage along the long and winding river of Life. Acamar is the dam, and indicates that emergence from the belly of Cetus (the technobureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness) requires a breakthrough that will lead us from the foul digestive juices of Cetus and into a greater freedom of being. Alignments here can fool one in thinking the forging they have just gone through in the belly, and their emergence marks the end of their journey, when in fact it is but the door merely opening to be worthy to begin the real work. Alignments here can also manifest as aliments due to the denial to pursue the physical clearing required to purge what has been taken on through our earlier journeys in life.
Beta Fornax of the initiatory and transformative fiery furnace is an indicator of what is to come as we enter initiatory Aries. Here we also find the spiraling black hole galaxy NGC 1097 also of Fornax, where matter is consumed and transformation takes place.
Al Pherg, Eta Pisces (conjoining Cas-A) is of the long intestinal emotional entwining that occurs through involvement in the Human world. Al Pherg reveals that issues held are of the emotional / physical realm and need to be dealt with at the emotional / physical level of clearing, not from the typical, mental "I'm above it all" head-trip. Alignments with Al Pherg often bring out the self-proclaimed awakened one in full denial of all their emotional stuph' they have yet to dump--a long series of juice cleanses may help! Intestinal issues and ailments are not uncommon at the sidereal Pisces-Aries cusp.
The Dual Core of the Andromeda Galaxy

T. Lauer (NOAO/AURA/NSF)
The Andromeda Galaxy was first viewed as a nebulous cloud in the heavens, but with the advent of powerful telescopes, the galactic beauty became visible as our nearest galactic neighbor. This marked the time for humanity to see its own greater galactic potential, to realize we can become much more than what in the past was merely an obscure nebulous notion.
Spiral type galaxies in general articulate the flow of spiritual and physical forces spiraling in evolutionary unfoldment. The beautiful Andromeda Galaxy, composed of hundreds of billions of stars, has two nuclei (centers of force) forming the heart of the galaxy, articulating the exquisite expression of life from the unified (Divine) spiraling Twin Flame masculine and feminine principles. The Andromeda Galaxy embodies the ideal of the princess Andromeda unified with her consort Perseus expressing the fulfillment of their divine destiny in radiant and exquisite form. The Andromeda Galaxy is exemplar for the unified polarities of life expressing in their full majesty and glory, spiraling together in beauty and perfection. To learn of Andromeda and Perseus see "The Royal Family." Here lies inspiration to visibly express and demonstrate our unification in its highest potential and form by settling for nothing less.
Vesta begins it retrograde on April 18, just after the New Moon. Saturn, also in its station, completes its retrograde, returning direct on April 19. Saturn's station makes it seem that all is on hold when the lunar cycle starts, but all will start moving on the 19th. This marks the full commencement of Saturn's current 376-day synodic cycle theme that began on Feb 10, 2007 and which was presented in the Jan 18, 2007 Lunar Planner.
Synodic cycles begin when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun, which is called a planetary synod. Synod means place of meeting. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.
There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.

Crescent Moon Phase Characteristics
The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in its new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.
The Moon and Venus make a beautiful conjunction hours before the Crescent Moon of April 20. They can be seen conjoining Aldebaran in Taurus in the western sky just after sunset. The Moon-Venus conjunction inspires us to live true to heart, beauty and rapture in life, and to relinquish any fears that may limit our heart's true expression, and to claim the beauty and abundance life has to offer.
Our Crescent Moon of Apr 20 lies a bit further along in sidereal Taurus and conjoins Kursa of Eridanus, which marks the beginning of the River of Life. Our Crescent Moon reveals a new journey now begins.
First Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics
The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter.
The First Quarter Moon of Apr 23-24 in sidereal Cancer conjoins Talitha (Iota) and Kappa of Ursa Major, which create the forefoot of the Great Bear. I dub this duo as protectress, guardian, and nurturer of humanity. This duo is also the Chinese "High Dignitary." Although minor stars, they should not be taken lightly, as they hold a principal office within the Bear. Of the Great Bear they are associated with the global scene and world powers. They inspire us to become a caring and nurturing force for each other, an enabling force that responsibly supports our emergence from darkness, dogma, and delusion, emergence from the limits and bounds created by selfish, fearful or controlling beliefs, a force that supports us to move into freedom and greater personal fulfillment.
Also conjoining Talitha is a pulsar (APO 0823+26) in Cancer that reminds us to emerge from psycho-emotional issues common to collective consciousness and from our engrained limiting thought patterns. It inspires us to be independent and free thinkers rather than co-dependant followers of dogmatic belief structures of mass-consciousness or of the groups we have been participating with that limit our ability to initiate creative action that supports the manifestation of our greater personal and collective fulfillment.
Pulsars are navigational beacons for the soul, guiding us if we listen. Generally pulsars lie along the galactic plane, but because this pulsar has a non-galactic orientation, we must watch the propensity to turn our action into yet more human dogma, creating merely another blind ceremonial pattern. For the less aware, it may even reinforce behavior driven from such dogmatic consciousness, creating monotonous drone-like creatures of habit.
Venus and Saturn begin a new 230-day synodic cycle on April 26-27 in the last degree of sidereal Cancer, but under the auspices of the Head of the Lion. See Synodic Cycles to learn about synodic cycles with planets other than Earth.
This cycle, which will run through Dec 12-13, 2007, is one about breaking new trail (the current Earth-Saturn synodic theme), but now concretizing a path from the passion of the heart.
Gibbous Moon Phase Characteristics
The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.
Our Gibbous Moon occurs on April 27-28 in the late sidereal Leo conjoining Avior of Argo Navis and Alkes of Crateris.
Alkes of Crateris is the Golden Chalice, the Cup of Salvation, the Holy Grail. Alkes inspires us to seek a greater fulfillment that lies hidden beyond the diversionary shenanigans and smoke screens perpetuated by the egoic figureheads on stage.
For those willing to delve even further south--that is, to transcend the egoic stage altogether--we find Avior, Epsilon Carina of Argo Navis and Delta Velorum on the sail of the Argo. These two stars are associated with the underlying spiritual truth and wisdom that does lead to our greater fulfillment and well being, a truth far hidden from the ego-driven wanna-be spiritual-political self-proclaimed authorities who spout principles they do not live. Here lies the true spiritual sage who most often is one without need to be on stage, one who is often found behind the scenes simply living their spiritual truth. These are the ones working with transcendent currents of wisdom (Delta Velorum) that influence the surface world in genuine ways--those who make a real difference but who do not need to at personality level. Avior is the true sage, the awakened soul, one fully cognizant of their soul (galactic) mission, a mission transcendent to the smoke and follies common to the global arena.
Mars and Uranus conjoin at the Moon's North Node starting from April 25 and culminating on April 28-29 in sidereal Aquarius--a dynamic pair inspiring radical, new, dynamic and spontaneous action that breaks us from the conformity and comfy patterns of the past.
Concurrently a Mercury-Eris synod sets in motion a time to evolve new logistics that support a new order due to that which was previously disrupted in our lives.
Phaethon and Sedna start a new synodic cycle on April 30 in late sidereal Aries.
Phaethon (3200) (sometimes miss-spelled as Phaeton) belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids. Its orbit crosses that of Mercury, Venus and Mars. Phaethon is currently near its aphelion (furthest from the sun in its orbit). Phaethon's gutsy approach to the Sun is closer than any other known asteroid, obviously getting quite toasty as it does. Its theme is often associated with "overreach." Phaethon, a son of Helios, means "The Shining One."
Phaethon's Orbit (Inclination: ~22°) and current location.
Phaethon's last perihelion (when closest to the Sun) occurred on
Aug 8, 2006. The next perihelion will occur on Jan 13, 2008
I generally to not discuss the many minor asteroids, but I mention this one because I know many astrologers find Phaethon's influence of interest and because Phaethon is at is aphelion at the time of the synod. Perhaps mentioning this Phaethon-Sedna synod may inspire attention to it which may bring more insight about both. This may be a good topic for discussion in the Lunar Planner Forum, for those so inclined.
This specific Phaethon-Sedna theme is revealed by Botein of Aries; Rana, Delta Eridanus; and the stars of Caelum, the chisel.
The stars of Caelum suggest that the initiatory sculpting of our lives is a creative process, chiseled away at a bit at a time.
Rana of Eridanus, another stopping point along the river of life, articulates the theme of those lost or tired through their initiations stopping in need of aid. Conjoining Botein, although meaning the belly (of the Ram), it actually marks the hind, the anatomy articulating the theme of those either lost and stranded, or simply left behind (the lost or following sheep).
Phaethon's orbit is relatively quick (about 524 days) compared to slow moving Sedna, so the Phaethon-Sedna synodic cycles move slowly through sidereal Aries and the cycle itself is close to that duration.
Full Moon Phase Characteristics
The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.
The Full Moon of May 2 occurs in mid-sidereal Libra. This location marks the end of the Virgo constellation, at the feet of the Virgin. Although the constellation of Virgo begins at the Leo / Virgo cusp, it extends into the first half of the sidereal sign of Libra. The Virgin's base chakra (Spica, Alpha Virgo) marks the cusp of Virgo / Libra, while the Virgin's legs extend well into Libra, with her feet marking the center of sidereal Libra. The constellation of Virgo embraces ~46 degrees of the zodiak--the longest of the zodiakal constellations. See the Astronomical Truth of the Virgin to learn more.
This Full Moon conjoins the primary Alpha and Beta stars of the Southern Cross, and Alphecca, the Alpha star of the Northern Crown. This is a place of pure intent and one of equipoise.
The Southern Cross lies below the stars of the Centaur, protector of the Cross and benevolent teacher of its principles. Cruces embodies the original cardinality (pure intent) of the soul (also the four cardinal virtues seemly lost to most of humanity). This is the purity of the soul before the aberrations and attitudes incurred by the soul throughout the re-incarnational process / or throughout the trials of life. The Centaur teaches us that the way from our past is by seeking the original cardinality of the soul and living it. This is to claim that cardinality as our foundation and to reach beyond the entrapment we find our selves in for the Northern Crown--for our evolutionary freedom and fulfillment.
Our Full Moon brings realization about our true intent and purpose, and the importance of standing in this place of balance and clarity to achieve our personal fulfillment.
Mercury and the Sun conjoin a day after the Full Moon (May 2-3) (a superior conjunction / on the far side of the Sun) marking the mid-point in the current Mercury 116-day synodic cycle which started on Feb 23, 2007, and which was presented in the February 17, 2007 Lunar Month. The mid-point in a synodic cycle is much like the Full Moon in a Lunar cycle, a time of realization regarding the synodic cycle theme--fitting for this to occur on our Full Moon "day of realization." It could be a revelatory day.
Jupiter and Ixion start their new synodic cycle in sidereal Scorpio on May 4, 2007--a significant event. The last Jupiter-Ixion cycle started in late December of 1994. The Jupiter-Ixion cycles last close to 13 years. This is the first of three significant and mobilizing synodic cycles satrting this year. The second is with Quaoar in June and the third is with Pluto in November.
The series of Jupiter and Saturn synods occurring with Pluto, Ixion, and Quaoar from 1982 through the present "will be" presented in "Part 2" of: The Path of Pluto Ixion & Quaoar. Part 1 was posted in Dec 2006. I have yet to finish Part 2 and post it to the site, but hope to have it up very soon.
This Jupiter-Ixion synodic cycle resides under the auspices of Restaban of Draco. Restaban (Beta) and Etamin (Gamma) of Draco create the eyes of the Dragon. Draco is the constellation that encircles and guards the northern pole of our ecliptic. Both stars are of a high administrative order overseeing the initiations of the incarnate soul. They lie north of and express through Hercules and Ophiuchus. Restaban expresses between the Head of Hercules (Ras Algethi) and the Heart of the Scorpion (Antares) into sidereal Scorpio. Etamin, also the head of the Egyptian Hippopotamus, the primordial mother, expresses just into sidereal Sagittarius and oversees the heart center of our Galaxy (Galactic Center).
Restaban opens portals and pathways in the physical world for those who have truly embraced and mastered their initiations in life, who have aligned with the path of soul rather than the convenient path of personality, for those who live true to self--as our Hercules exemplifies--portals that are otherwise blocked to those who have not claimed their self-mastery and demonstrated their self-responsibility in applying that mastery.
Jupiter of course is an expansive and mobilizing force, and is of higher spiritual law. The astrological nature of Ixion, new to the scene, is just beginning to be explored by astrologers. More about Ixion.
This new Jupiter-Ixion 13-year synodic cycle under the auspices of Restaban may suggest a greater justice will be enforced over the unjust taking of life that has been rampantly occurring on Earth. It may also open a pathway for those who do take such responsibility that is otherwise blocked for those who continue the injustice, or stand by and passively let it continue. Perhaps another good topic for the Lunar Planner Forum.
I will add more about this specific synod in the context of several Jupiter synodic cycles occurring with Pluto Ixion & Quaoar in Part 2 of the Path of Pluto Ixion & Quaoar article--soon to come.
Just before the Disseminating Moon, on May 5 and May 6, a Grand Trine forms as retrograde Jupiter trines Saturn (now direct) with the twosome joined by Ceres. The Moon activates the trine by conjoining Jupiter. This is the second Grand Trine of this few-week dark portal that we have been going through. The first Grand Trine involving Jupiter and Saturn (then retrograde) formed in the last lunar cycle on April 8, which opened the portal. We now emerge from it. The theme of the portal was presented in the last Lunar cycle of March 18, 2007.
Why a "dark" Grand Trine Portal? Aspects are neither good or bad. A trine is a geometric harmonic that simply creates an easy resonance between that which is in trine. The nature of the planets and their star alignments are what determine the energetic occurring.
Disseminating Moon Phase Characteristics
The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit in the cycle, of claiming its gift.
The Disseminating Moon of May 6 conjoins retrograde Pluto upon the "Gate of God" in sidereal Sag. A beautiful opening occurs if we are willing to relinquish our denials and any "false truths" we may live by.
The "Gate of God" is the primary node created where the ecliptic plane crosses the galactic plane (5° sidereal Sag). This, and its opposite location in the ecliptic, "The Gate of Man," create the fixed axis of Earth's Precessional Cross.
Last Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics
The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle's last quarter.
Last Quarter Moon occurs on May 9-10 in latter sidereal Capricorn nesting between Chiron and Neptune. This is in the overlap area of the Capricorn and Aquarius constellations. Chiron conjoins Sualocin of Delphinus, the Dolphin star system. The Moon also under the auspices of the Dolphins, conjoins Gamma 1 & 2 of Delphinus. Neptune conjoins the fortunate Nashira of Capricorn, bringer of good news regarding legalities which may seem to come out of nowhere due to Neptune's obscuring mist, and Beta Gruis, the throat chakra of Aaron, the articulate high priest-scientist.
The oracular angelic guides of Delphi merge and meander with the future-oriented visionary Aquarian influence through the rock-hard conforming stoic past of Capricorn and spring from the ground as prophetic life carrying waters--a flow of guiding wisdom not otherwise available by mortal efforts alone, a flow that leads us from the crystallized into the unbounded future to become.
Trust and make the changes you are guided to make!
Balsamic Moon Phase Characteristics
Ceres added a principle energetic to last month's lunar theme, asking us to examine what is truly nurturing in our lives regarding use of our life force. Now, in this lunar cycle Ceres conjoins Eris (the dynamic new dwarf planet) in late sidereal Pisces on May 12.
This conjunction brings stimulus to pursue that which is truly nourishing to replace that which has recently been dismantled or disrupted in our lives.
The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.
The Balsamic Moon of May 13 occurs in sidereal Pisces and conjoins Alpha Reticuli and Alpha Lacerta.
Lying over the first half of sidereal Pisces is the Great Square of Pegasus. The Great Square holds the mystery of the metamorphosis of the physical body into light body. Above the Great Sqaure in early sidereal Pisces is Lacerta, the primordial Lizard, gate-keeper protecting the entry-way to the realm of the gods, to Earth's precessional polar arc. This northern arc is called the Heptanomis. The Heptanomis is a natural 7-fold harmonic division of Earth's polar arc (the Covenant of the God) into the upper seven heavens, mansions or stations--actually epochs in Earth's evolutionary precessional cycle of the soul. The entryway, protected by Lacerta, is the "Primordial Origin" of man, the beginning point in Earth's precessional cycle, the evolutionary cycle of the soul.
Conjoining Alpha Lacerta is Alpha Reticuli, which resides in the very southern heavens. Unlike the mentalized and emotionally detached Zetas of Reticuli (the name is plural because there are two zeta stars), which lie quite distant and separate from the four primary stars of Reticuli, Alpha Reticuli is the foci of the reticule, the sacred geometry of the DNA refined to crystal clarity, the underlying rhomboid or diamond. To illuminate this human vessel, to make carbon into diamond, we must fully embrace the primordial aspects of life, to infuse the high spiritual awareness of soul in and through our entwined genetics of physicality to become the glistening diamonds we can become. The real "secret" held here is that this is not a mere mind trip, something we do in the head, in just how we think, but requires a surrender of the emotional tension of resistance we hold within so spirit may manifest in its true perfection. This is a transmutational process that occurs by being washed and polished by the experiential waves over a natural period of evolutionary time. The secret is to embrace all experience unconditionally, without resistance, with love and compassion, so we can relinquish the stored e-motion we hold and do not build up more. E-motion is merely the resistance to embrace the motion of experience, the resistance to love.
The Sun enters sidereal Taurus on May 16, within an hour of our next New Moon occurring in potent first degree of sidereal Taurus--more to come then.
See "The Solunar Sidereal Synchronization" to learn about the current lunar cycles' synchronization with the sidereal cusps--why these few current lunar cycles are extra transformative.
